General Services as the name implies
provided support services to the rest of Designs Department. Production with
a Model Shop in Bentinck House; Drawing Office; Liaison; Administration and
the General Services Laboratory' Contribution by Bob Haywood:
The General Services Laboratory was known locally as
the “Test Room” with a primary function of pre-production testing of
equipment designed by other sections within the department. Testing was
normally carried out to a proposed specification or production test schedule
and depending on the results the design was either put into general use or a
recommendation made concerning a modification to the equipment or the method
of testing. Production equipments being produced by Equipment Department in
a cost effective manner. Very short production demands were satisfied within
the test room.
