Transmission Operations - Reminiscences |
Photographs taken by Martin BriscoeMartin has contributed a DVD containing over 5000 pictures taken at various transmitter sites. They range from transistors to towers, with all sorts of things in between. Many of them show work in progress and some sites are untidy to say the least, but it is quite interesting to see this as it provides some insight to the work that had to be done. Some of the equipment in the pictures was removed many years ago. It would be a very time consuming task to put all 5000 pictures on BBCeng, so here is a compromise. All pictures for the first four sites are on pages accessed from the first four links below, then there is just one sample picture from each site (click on the thumbnails to enlarge them and then use your browser's back button to return). Allow time for the pictures to load as, unlike most pictures on BBCeng, they have not been compressed If you are looking for other pictures from any of the sites below then click here to send me an email. I will either respond myself or forward your request to Martin Briscoe. (Of course BBC Transmission had many more sites than those listed below.)
Some of Martin Briscoe's pictures are also available for viewing on his Picasa web site. Due to the limit of 500 pictures per album on Picasa they are presently split into the following two albums: Album 1 (colour). (You might find it convenient to right click and open the page in a new tab or window.) Album 2 (monochrome) They aren't in any particular order and initially (July 2008) they are unlabelled. Here is a particularly good picture of Torosay on the Island of Mull in Scotland. Return to List of Reminiscences |
