Bill Buckley 1935 - 26 July 2021 WC Buckley (Bill) joined BBC Transmitter Group about 1960 (estimated from his 5 figure Staff No) having worked previously at Post Office Telephones. His first posting was at the Llangollen VHF Transmitting station and he was subsequently based at numerous other transmitter sites before transferring to Links Unit in TPID, which later became Broadcast Communications Section in Transmission Engineering Department - part of BBC Transmission. He was initially based in 4 Cavendish Square before moving to Brookmans Park in 1980. He transferred with the rest of the Department to Warwick in 1988. He worked on a series of Fixed and Outside Broadcast Radio Link systems as well as Local Radio Car facilities and always approached his work with great enthusiasm and dedication. After periods as Project and then Senior Project Engineer, Bill became the Head of Section. He left BBC Transmission around the time of privatisation and then arranged the provision of two overseas Satellite Earth stations for World Service in a very short timescale dictated by the terms of the associated government funding. He then left the BBC and worked with the EBU in Geneva, mainly arranging the provision of Satellite Earth Stations for programme sharing and contribution purposes in many of the countries subscribing to the EBU. Bill was always very keen on cars and was a member of both the Jaguar and Beauford owners' clubs. As a hobby after retirement he would provide a wedding car service with his Beauford, where he proudly wore his driver's uniform. J Levett Jan 2022
